Book Condition Guide

At Ye Olde Book Knook, we offer both new and pre-owned printed books. To keep things clear, each item is assigned a condition rating. The condition shown on the product page refers to the exact copy you will receive.

General Notes

  • Used books may show normal signs of reading or handling.
  • New books are unused but may have minor shelf wear from storage.
  • Condition reflects the overall state of the cover, spine, binding, and pages.
  • All books are complete unless otherwise stated on the product page.

Condition Categories

NEW
Brand new and unread. Clean pages, tight binding, and no markings. Cover and spine are crisp with minimal to no shelf wear.

LIKE_NEW
Appears almost new; may be unread or very lightly handled. Clean pages and solid binding. No writing, highlighting, or missing pages. Minimal cosmetic wear.

VERY_GOOD
Light signs of use but remains in excellent condition. Pages are clean and fully readable. Minor wear such as light corner wear, small scuffs, or faint creasing. Binding is solid.

GOOD
Shows noticeable signs of prior use but remains fully readable. Moderate wear on cover or spine (creases, scuffing, edge wear). Pages may contain light notes or highlighting. Binding intact but may show minor looseness. No missing pages.

WELL_READ
A clearly used but complete copy. Visible wear including creasing, scuffs, or worn edges. May include notes, highlighting, stamps, or stickers. Binding may be worn but pages remain secure and readable. No missing pages unless explicitly stated.

Common Characteristics of Used Books

Used copies may include one or more of the following. These do not automatically mean a book is defective:

  • Light shelf wear or mild cover creasing
  • Price stickers or residue
  • Previous owner name or short inscription
  • Library markings (when typical for the listed condition)

Condition Accuracy

The condition listed on each product page reflects the book’s state at the time of listing. If a listing includes extra notes (for example: “ex-library”, “dust jacket included”, or “highlighting present”), those details will appear on the product page when applicable.
